Tracking and Attribution
Understand how Afglo connects affiliate promotion to referred customers and conversions.
Tracking and attribution connect affiliate promotion to customer activity. Afglo is built to help owners understand which affiliates influenced signups or purchases and which conversions are eligible for commission review.
Referral Links
Referral links identify the affiliate and campaign behind a visitor. When someone follows an affiliate link, Afglo records the referral context so later customer activity can be matched back to the correct affiliate.
Coupon Codes
Coupon codes give affiliates another way to promote. They are useful when customers hear about an offer in a newsletter, podcast, community, or direct conversation and may not click a referral link immediately.
Attribution Windows
An attribution window defines how long a referral remains eligible after the first tracked visit. Short windows are useful for quick purchase decisions. Longer windows can work better for higher-consideration products and subscription offers.
Last Touch Attribution
When multiple affiliates touch the same customer journey, last touch attribution credits the most recent qualified affiliate interaction before conversion. This keeps campaign credit predictable when multiple promotions overlap.
UTM Source Tracking
Affiliates can add standard UTM parameters to their referral links to track which channels drive the most traffic. When a referral link includes a utm_source parameter, Afglo captures it alongside the referral visit and displays it in the Source column of the activity log.
How it works
Append &utm_source=... to any affiliate link:
https://xyz.com/?via=xyz&utm_source=youtube
https://xyz.com/pricing?via=xyz&utm_source=newsletter
https://xyz.com/?via=xyz&utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=socialThe utm_source value is sent to Afglo when the tracking script resolves the referral visit. Only utm_source is captured — other UTM parameters (utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_content, utm_term) are not stored by Afglo but will pass through to the destination site for use with other analytics tools like Google Analytics.
Example use cases
| Link | Source value | Use case |
|---|---|---|
?via=xyz&utm_source=youtube | youtube | Video description link |
?via=xyz&utm_source=newsletter | newsletter | Email campaign |
?via=xyz&utm_source=twitter | Social media post | |
?via=xyz&utm_source=blog | blog | Blog article link |
?via=xyz | (empty) | No UTM tag — referrer still tracked |
When no utm_source is present, the Source column shows a dash. The Referrer column still captures the originating page URL automatically.
Testing Tracking
Before launching widely, owners should test the campaign journey:
- Open an affiliate referral link in a clean browser session.
- Confirm the visitor reaches the correct destination.
- Complete a test customer action.
- Check that the owner and affiliate dashboards show the expected referral and conversion activity.
